- 1 cup Bengal Gram Dal (Chana Daal)
- 1 cup Jaggery (Gur / Bella)
- 1 tsp Cardamom pwder
- 1 1/2 cups Flour
- A pinchTurmeric
- 2 tsp Semolina (sooji / rava)
- 4 tbsp Oil
- Salt a pinch
Puran Poli or Puran Puri or Holige or Obbattu is a traditional type of sweet flatbread made in India in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
Pressure cook Dal for 2 whistles and remove water. Then mix the jaggery and cook for another 10 minutes. Grind it without using any extra water. Add cardamom powder and mix with hand to make a smooth mixture. Keep aside.
Mix flour with semolina, turmeric & salt. Add 2 tbsp oil and water (if milk its better) and make a smooth dough. Cover with a wet cloth and keep aside for 1 hr.
Now take a ball of dough and spread with hand. Take a ball of dal mixture and cover it with the spreaded dough. Deep in little oil and roll it into 6 inch diameter flat ronund shapes. Fry on flat frying pan with 1 tbsp oil. When one side becomes golden brown flip and cook the other side.
Serve with a spoonful of clarified butter (ghee / thuppa).
